Shifty and Sam are back in their third picture book adventure. This time they have stolen jewels and penguin pandemonium to deal with!
These former bad dogs turned bakers have been asked to cater Lady Kate’s birthday ball at Woofington Hall. They’re very excited to note that she’s wearing her birthday tiara made of real diamonds.
A fantastic cake is baked, a terrific feast is laid out before the appreciative guests, but when Lady Kate enters the room, the whole place falls silent:
“My diamond tiara has gone! I’ve been ROBBED!” she wails.
The top dogs of the crime-solving (and high-end patisserie) worlds immediately volunteer to find the thief. They’ve noticed a rather suspicious penguin lurking about…
Fast-paced, packed full of humour, loveable characters and glorious illustrations, this story has been a hit with everybody I’ve read to.
Readers can’t help but root for Shifty and Sam as they race around Woofington Hall trying to capture their main suspect.
As with all the stories in this series, there are lots of hidden jokes and details in both the text and the illustrations. Small children seem to particularly enjoy hunting for the little black spider hiding on each page – he follows our heroes on all their adventures. I have to admit that I secretly like finding the spider before my sons – not that I’m competitive or anything!
Another handy feature of this book is the scannable QR code inside the front cover. One swipe of your smartphone and children can enjoy listening independently to a fully narrated version. Excellent if they’re unable to read the book alone.
I absolutely love these books and can’t recommend them enough! I am also very excited that a more challenging first chapter book adventure is being released soon too. Watch out for ‘The Spooky School’ in a bookstore near you!
I’m off to polish my tiara!
